The Maker's tote is a modern nod to a classic doctor's bag. The bag is specially designed with the DIY'er in mind.

The Maker's tote is ideal to organize and carry all your creative essentials. Think of sewing material, hand lettering material, knitting stuff, needle punching, crochet pens, ... Everything gets its own place.

Please note: this pattern is not suitable as a first introduction to the sewing machine ;). Experience with stitching biais is recommended.

The pattern provides two sizes.

Dimensions of the finished bag:

  • Large: 40 cm wide, 32.5 cm high and 19 cm deep.
  • Small: 30 cm wide, 25 cm high and 15 cm deep.

Recommended fabrics:

  • Canvas, sturdy cotton, jeans or home deco fabrics for the outer fabric
  • Cotton for the lining fabric

Supplies for fabric widths of 110 cm (small between brackets):

  • Outer fabric: 50 cm (40 cm)
  • Lining fabric: 90 cm (60 cm)
  • Fabric for the pockets: 80 cm (60 cm)
  • Accent fabric (for bias and handles): 45 cm
  • Reinforcement:
    • Pellon SF101 ~= G700: 60 cm (40 cm)
    • Pellon 809 ~= H250: 60 cm (40 cm)
    • Foam stabilizer ~= Style-vil or Be-form: 90 cm (30 cm)
    • Separating zipper of 45 cm (35 cm) for top
    • Zipper of (min.) 25 cm (18 cm) for inside

Optional:

  • 2.5m wide biais (15mm) instead of homemade biais

Attention!

This pattern consists of a paper booklet with an English manual (and therefore also dimensions in inches - converting to metric measures is very simple: 1 inch = 2.5 cm, 1 yard = 92cm) and does require some knowledge of English sewing terms (or readiness for a little preparatory research). The manual itself is richly illustrated with drawings at each step, so don't be scared off. Only the non-rectangular pattern parts are supplied on paper, the other pattern parts you draw yourself or cut out directly using the supplied cutting labels!
